New Snow White Review: Confused, Underwhelmed, and Curious

I recently watched the new Snow White movie, and I’ve got to be honest… it left me with more questions than excitement. This isn’t a breakdown of trailers or early reviews—I actually sat through the whole film. And here’s my take.

🗣️ Let’s Be Clear: I’m Not a Movie Critic

I’m not going to throw out a 1–10 rating or dissect the cinematography. That’s not my style. I keep it simple:

  • Would I watch it again? No.
  • Was it good? Not for me.
  • Did I leave the theater confused? Yeah, kinda.

That’s the best way I can explain it.

🎭 Acting & Vibes: A Broadway Performance in Disguise?

Let’s talk performances. Rachel Zegler (Snow White) has pipes, no doubt. But her scenes felt more like close-up Broadway solos than cinematic storytelling. She kept singing off to the side—not engaging with the camera—which made the whole thing feel like a stage play with a film budget.

As for Gal Gadot playing the Evil Queen… I wasn’t sold. Her performance lacked the energy you’d expect from a dramatic villain, and the singing? Not great. It didn’t feel natural, and the choreography felt stiff. Honestly, it pulled me out of the moment more than it pulled me in.

🎶 Musical Overload (Even the Kids Noticed)

I was at the theater with my daughter, and there were some younger kids sitting nearby dressed up in Snow White costumes—which was awesome to see. But the moment one of them whispered, “No more singing, please…” I knew I wasn’t the only one feeling it. That line said it all. If your target audience is checking out mid-song, something’s off.

👑 Confusion Around the Story

Now, I’ll admit—I don’t have deep knowledge of classic Disney lore. I get Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White—but the finer details blur together. So watching this film left me wondering:

  • Was the guy a prince or a bandit?
  • Was that true love’s kiss or just a plot shortcut?
  • Why was the CGI dwarf (especially Dopey) kinda scary?

None of it really stuck. There was a lack of emotional connection and character development, and for a movie like Snow White, that’s a big miss.

🎨 On Remakes: I’m Not Anti-Remake—Just Make It Good

I’m not one of those “don’t touch the classics” people. I love seeing creative spins on old stories. If someone wants to retell Snow White, Batman, Spider-Man, whatever—I say go for it. But there’s a difference between refreshing a story and flattening it.

This version felt like it was trying too hard to be new without grounding itself in anything compelling. It lacked magic, weight, or emotional payoff.

👎 My Verdict

For me, this is a solid “no.”
Would I recommend watching it in theaters? Nope.
Would I rewatch it at home? Also no.
Will kids enjoy it? Maybe… but that depends on their patience for awkward musical numbers.

🤷 Final Thoughts

I wasn’t the target audience for this, and I know that. So take this as just one person’s perspective. But if you’re reading this and wondering whether to watch it—just manage your expectations.

This one left me confused, underwhelmed, and more curious about why it missed the mark than anything else.
