How Do You Make Money Blogging On YouTube

If you’re wondering how to make money blogging on YouTube then you have quite a few options to choose from.

While you can do “all of the things”, starting off with one tactic until it’s producing results is the best method.  I practiced what I preach and didn’t move on to the next opportunity until I was able to maximize the first one to its fullest.

Here are the most common ways that content creators are monetizing on the YouTube platform.

  • Participating in the YouTube Partner Program.
  • Sell products or merchandise.
  • Community support “Subscriber Donations”
  • Sponsorships with brands as an influencer.
  • Joining affiliate programs.

As you can see there are many options to choose from.  To get a better understanding I will break each of these methods but first…

How do you make money from YouTube?

While there isn’t one perfect answer, I’ll share my experience on what path would be the best way to start.

First, you should look into supporter funding. This will allow you to monetize on your very first video.

Before you can join the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), you will need to meet a certain criteria and if your channel is new that won’t work. So setting up a fan funding account is a great first option.

With this setup, you can ask your viewers for donations to support your channel.

If you have a business now is your chance to promote it and give them details on how to get more information.

These two options alone are what you can do from day one.

While building your fan base this would be a great time to begin looking into affiliate programs.

Similar to the YouTube Partner Program you will also need to meet a specific criteria for acceptance.

During this phase of your process you should have a fan funding account setup and if you’re a business owner to use this opportunity and provide you viewers details on how they can learn more.

This is the growth stage and when your number of subscribers increase, so will the options you will have available.

At this point it would be a good time to start looking at possible brand deals.

With these three methods alone, you can earn a healthy income.

As you become eligible for programs, the more income stream options you will have. The decision now is to figure out what is best for you and your brand.

You don’t have to do them all but knowing they are available is a good thing.

Participating in the YouTube Partner Program

Here we are going to dive into what it takes for acceptance.

You should know by now how you can make money from youtube views other than being in their program.

This is a wonderful goal to aim for but I want you to treat becoming a YouTube Partner as icing on the cake.   Don’t be discouraged if it takes a while to get in.

To the qualify you must:

  • Follow all the YouTube monetization policies.
  • The YouTube monetization policies are a collection of policies that allow you to monetize on YouTube.
  • As a YouTube partner, your agreement including the YouTube partner program policies require compliance with these monetization policies to potentially earn money on YouTube.
  • Live in a country/region where the YouTube Partner Program is available.
  • Have more than 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months.
  • Have more than 1,000 subscribers.
  • Have a linked AdSense account.

Steps to apply:

  • Sign in to YouTube.
  • In the top right, click your profile picture and then YouTube Studio.
  • In the left menu, click Monetization.
  • If you’re under the threshold, click Notify me when I’m eligible to get an email. You’ll receive an email when you’ve reached 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours over the past 12 months. If you meet the threshold, click Start on the “Review Partner Program terms” card.

Their automated systems and human reviewers will then review your channel’s content to check whether your account has followed all of our guidelines.

Ways to make money in the YouTube Partner Program

You can make money on YouTube through the following features:

  • Advertising revenue: Get ad revenue from display, overlay, and video ads.
  • Channel memberships: Your members make recurring monthly payments in exchange for special perks that you offer.
  • Merch shelf: Your fans can browse and buy official branded merchandise that’s showcased on your watch pages.
  • Super Chat & Super Stickers: Your fans pay to get their messages highlighted in chat streams.
  • YouTube Premium Revenue: Get part of a YouTube Premium subscriber’s subscription fee when they watch your content.

As you can see it’s nice to be in the program and there are some exciting ways that you can earn some cash but like I said, treat this as Icing on the Cake.

Sell products or merchandise.

You don’t have to be in the YPP to sell products and merchandise. However, it is nice to have a carousel on the bottom of your video with your merch.

A way around this is to add links to in the description area to promote products and merchandise.

When you press the show more link in the description area it will expand and this is where your viewers can see your items.

Use the description area to your advantage. You should place your best Call To Action (CTA) here so that you can get your audience to perform that task.

If you’re new to my content then you should know I will always tell you to drive your audience to a lead magnet aka an email capture form. (But that’s for another read)

Speaking of… Grab a copy of my side hustle checklist and see how creating content such as YouTube videos can be a lucrative way to earn income.

One thing I would like to mention. If you’re trying to promote your own branded merchandise and your channel is new that it could take time to sell those products.

Only a small percentage of your viewers will buy. So do your best to build up a strong community and then your loyal fans may buy that t-shirt or coffee mug of yours. 😉

One of the great perks of selling your own merchandise this way is you get 100{166b94f287569d1a0b2d85b3ea75ab9dd7b0d0871262724b9cd08371aa02a20d} of the cut.

Now You may be saying to yourself where do I find these places to get my stuff created. Here’s a list of the 10 best merch sites for content creators.

Merch Shops For YouTube

All of the sites on this list are retailers that are approved and supported by the YouTube Merch Shelf program.

Take a look at these vendors to get an idea of the creators using them and the different products and services they offer. Something may spark an idea that you didn’t even think of.

Each vendor has pros and cons but for anyone just starting I’d recommend Teespring.
It’s free to join and you don’t need a minimum number of subscribers to qualify.

Community support “Subscriber Donations”

Crowdfunding or what I would call fan support is a great way to start monetizing your video blogs. (vlogs)

As a vlogger the audience built up can support the creator with personal donations.

Most YouTubers support themselves with ads and products.
With newer technology coming to YouTube you will see more creators adding in some type of crowdfunding.

With charitable tips the audience is supporting you as a creator not the ads or products.

Ways to Get Community Support For Your YouTube Channel

So many to choose from but I am going to list the main three you should know about.

YouTube Partner Program (YPP):

  • Superchats and stickers- This is a way for fans to connect with creators during live chat. Viewers can purchase Super Chats to highlight their message within live chat. Viewers can also purchase Super Stickers to see a digital or animated image that pops up in the live chat feed.
  • Channel Memberships – Once part of the YPP and you’ve enabled memberships for your channel you can create members-only perks. Perks can include Members-only Community posts, videos, live stream and live chats.

These perks are only available to your active paid members. These include custom emoji, badges, and access to perks you offer.

Patreon

With patreon you can let your fans become active participants in the content you produce by offering them a monthly membership.

With their membership you can offer them access to exclusive content and community.

BuyMeACoffee

This is the platform I use.
It’s a way to give your audience an easy way to say thanks.
If you’ve read this far, found this article of value and would like to show your support then Buy James a Drink. You know I appreciate the support, cheers! 🥂

Sponsorships with brands as an influencer.

Getting sponsorships and partnering with brands as an influencer is great way to add another income stream to your YouTube channel .

I’m going to share with you a video that explains more about what branded sponsorships looks like and examples on how they film them.

YouTube creators, like you, are valuable to brands because you have a fanbase who trusts you. Your relationship with your viewers brings a human element to an advertising opportunity. Trust can lead to purchases, which is the ultimate goal for a brand.

Creating sponsored content has some valuable benefits:

  • You can make some “real” money from it
  • You will form important connections
  • It opens doors for future deals

Plus, depending on the brand, you may get their products and services for free. Who doesn’t love that!

Joining affiliate programs.

Next to having a membership program you can’t beat affiliate stuff. This could be the easiest way to earn passive income.

What are affiliate programs?

Affiliate programs are arrangements in which a merchant compensates it’s participant with commissions from a specific agreement.

The agreement can be from a wide variety of options. These may include ad impressions, leads, sales and even web site traffic to a particular page.
If you have a blog or YouTube channel you should definitely look into finding a few programs to join.

Here’s a short list of Affilaite Programs

Take a look to see what program fits your needs and even if you’re not 100{166b94f287569d1a0b2d85b3ea75ab9dd7b0d0871262724b9cd08371aa02a20d} sure just yet, consider starting with the Amazon Associates program.
It’s open to bloggers, publishers and content creators with a qualifying website or mobile app.

Once you have enough followers you should apply to their Influencer program.
You will have more benefits like your own shop on Amazon. Check mine out to see what I mean: Shop – James Delong

When you are set up with your account this is the time you will want to start referring products and services you believe in.

Similar to how I mentioned before about adding links to products and merchandise in the video description area of your video on YouTube, this is also where you will be placing your affiliate referral links.

The more videos you have, the more links you have out in the world. This is where passive income starts to add up and it’s a beautiful thing.

Simply put, recommend products and earn commissions

Final Thoughts

If you are going to be creating videos and have the opportunity to be compensated for your time and efforts then you should take full advantage.
