So you want to sell things online? Already have a brick and mortar business but want more of an online presence?
First things first, get your own domain name. (yourname.com and/or yourbusinessname.com)
I use 1 and 1 for my domains and it costs me about 9 bucks a year.
Next you will need to find a place to host your sites. I have nothing but good things to say about Host Gator and I’ve been using them for quite some time.
[Check my Resources page for more info on products and services I use.]
While you are waiting or in the process of getting a domain name you will want to get your vanity name for social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. ie Facebook.com/yourname , twitter.com/yourname
Here’s the part where I tell you My opinion and it’s just that, My opinion.
As you are well aware there are many ways of making a name for yourself or business online. My method is that I like for people to personally get to know me, the person behind the scene and not just a mascot for the company. I don’t care what business X is doing for the holidays, however to hear that the CEO is going skiing for the first time. Well that’s interesting to me and gives me an insight of the person whom I will be doing business with and would like to give off that same vibe to my followers.
Building a rapport with your clients is a great way to earn their trust and business.
This approach may not work for all business models but for what I do and teach it does.
If you already have your facebook, twitter, and/or a blog set up now it’s time to start getting social.
By starting off interactively and being social in your business you will be able to capture your audience in a way that other business only dreams of. (think for a second, how cool it would be that you tweeted a message to one of your favorite company’s President and that person responded back and not by just an email)
So for now before I get into blogging and setting up your pages I want you to focus on setting up your social media sites and grab your domain before someone else picks it up.
